The editor

The editor is made of panels you can drag, dock and tab together. Window reopens a closed panel and resets the layout.

Panels

PanelWhat it's for
HierarchyThe open scene's entities as a tree. Drag to reparent or reorder — later siblings draw on top. Search with t:Sprite to find entities by component.
SceneEdit the scene: select, move, rotate, scale. The bar above it switches to the Game view, shows layers, snapping and the canvas frame.
GameThe scene through its cameras, as players will see it — pick a device to preview its screen and safe area.
InspectorThe selected entity's components, or the selected asset's settings. Add Component at the bottom.
AssetsThe project's files. Drop files in to import them; right-click to create scenes, scripts, animations and more. Marks show which assets the active build uses.
ConsoleLogs, warnings and errors from the editor and your scripts.
AnimationKeyframe the selected entity's fields over time.
AIThe assistant. See Working with the AI.

Moving things

The tool strip on the Scene view's left edge:

KeyTool
QViewDrag to pan.
WMoveDrag an arrow to move along it, the square to move freely.
ERotateDrag the ring.
RScaleDrag an axis cube, or the centre cube to scale evenly.
TRectDrag edges and corners to resize (Shift keeps proportions).
XSwitch the handles between local and world axes.

The mouse wheel zooms, F frames the selection and Home frames the canvas.

Prefabs

Drag an entity from the Hierarchy into Assets to save it as a prefab, then drag the prefab into scenes to place copies. Instances show in blue; a field you change on one instance is an override, shown bold with a blue bar. Open a prefab to edit every instance at once.

Play

Play (Ctrl+P) runs the scene in the Game view with the active build profile's settings. Pause and Step Frame (Ctrl+Alt+P) let you inspect a moment. Stopping puts the scene back the way it was. The arrow beside Play can run it in a browser tab instead.

Settings

  • Project → Project Settings (Ctrl+,) — design resolution, physics, layers, feature cropping, splash screen and more, for the whole project.
  • Edit → Preferences (Ctrl+Shift+,) — your own settings: snapping, external tools, and the editor's theme under Appearance.
